In 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice finalized a major update to the ADA Title II rule, establishing clear digital accessibility requirements for public entities, including community colleges, with key compliance deadlines beginning in 2026.

For community colleges, this ruling applies directly to documents and digital materials shared with students, faculty, staff, and the public—including PDFs, forms, syllabi, policies, board materials, and other publicly available files. Institutions are expected to ensure accessible access to these materials proactively, not only in response to individual accommodation requests or complaints.
